Job Title: Medical Assistant.
Department: Nursing.
Responsible To: Director of Nursing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The clinical duties of the Medical Assistant have a multi-purpose function. The Medical Assistant will be cross-trained to perform activities from registration and appointments to administering and documenting immunization shots. The Medical Assistant will cross-train in all departments, namely Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, and Pediatrics.

In addition to the mentioned duties, when assigned to the appointment desk, they will perform tasks related to a "Clinical Office Assistant." These duties will include:
- Adhering to the provider template for scheduling appointments.
- Actually, booking appointments for call-ins and walk-ins as needed.
- Alerting the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing of any scheduling problems or concerns while maintaining communication between the front and back triage areas.
- Enters all pertinent changes and information into the registration and appointment systems.
- And maintains a professional, personable demeanor toward patients and co-workers.
Laboratory Duties:
Laboratory duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Collecting blood specimens (capillary, venous finger and heal sticks), reading hematocrits, administering and reading tuberculin tests, testing urine, performing stains and culture tests with slides, performing EKG's when applicable, recording test and related forms.
- The Medical Assistant is also expected to maintain orderliness and cleanliness of all work areas, to include maintaining inventory of stocks for lab use and monthly maintenance of the autoclave.
- Responsible for the logging of specimen flow in and out of the lab.
- Handles and processes urine's, specific to the diagnostic tests.
- Is expected to tract all anemia's, Paps, and leads, abnormal labs result via EMR-Link.
Company/Patient Records:
All patient information is held confidential to protect PWHS from liability.
Working Conditions:
Works in a normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.
Work attire: Clinical attire per personal policy.
In addition to the mentioned duties and responsibilities, the Medical Assistant is expected to comply with all other duties assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Training:
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- Prefer Certified Medical Assistant.
Skills/Experience:
Prefer 1 — 3 years of Medical Assistant work experience, with the ability to perform phlebotomy procedures.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Excellent Customer Service.
- Basic computer skills and typing.
- Excellent follow-through skills, prioritization of multiple tasks, and attention to detail.
